Migration to Windows XP 32-bit

  • create first primary partition as FAT32 with size 1 GB and label “HP_TOOLS” for EFI applications and tools (pdf) and make directories
    • HEWLETT-PACKARD/QuickLook
    • HEWLETT-PACKARD/SystemDiags
    • HEWLETT-PACKARD/BIOS
    • HEWLETT-PACKARD/BIOS/Current
  • in SETUP of EFI in “System Configuration” and “Devices” set “SATA mode” to “IDE” (instead of “AHCI”) – Windows XP can’t be installed on AHCI controller due to an error
  • during setup of Windows XP 32-bit create second primary partition as NTFS and install the system
  • in the system install driver of AHCI controller and switch access mode
    • select Update Driver from Device Manager as mentioned in the first reply to this post
    • pick from list of device drivers on your computer
    • select (Standard IDE ATA/ATAPI controller) > Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
    • restart your PC
  • in SETUP of EFI in “System Configuration” and “Devices” set “SATA mode” to “AHCI” (instead of “IDE”)
  • enable PAE switch in boot.ini if needed (see [[blog*win32-above-4gb]])
  • install HP drivers and EFI tools, especially
